Data Retention Policy

Effective Date: June 7, 2026

This policy describes how long Buy & Charter retains your personal data and the basis for each retention period.

Assessment Data

Your Tier 1 Assessment data — including the form inputs you provided (budget, location, vessel details, buyer profile) and the generated assessment report — is retained for 24 months from the date of submission. After this period, your data is permanently deleted unless you have opted in to anonymised data retention.

Anonymised Data

Allowing anonymised data usage is entirely optional and is never required to use the Service. Only if you chose to opt in at the time of your assessment, your data may be anonymised — with all personal identifiers permanently removed — and retained indefinitely for market analysis and service improvement purposes. Anonymised data cannot be linked back to you.

Subscription Data

If you hold or have held a monthly subscription, we retain your email address and subscription status records for the duration of your subscription plus 24 months following cancellation or expiry. Payment transaction records are managed by Stripe and retained for 7 years in accordance with financial record-keeping requirements.

Email Verification Codes

One-time email verification codes generated during the subscriber access flow are stored temporarily and are automatically invalidated and removed after they are used or after a short expiry window (typically less than 15 minutes), whichever comes first. These codes are never retained in a reusable form.

Promo Code Usage Records

When you redeem a promo code, we record the combination of your email address and the promo code used. This record is retained for 24 months to enforce single-use limits, detect misuse, and support any disputes.

Browser Local Storage

Assessment session references and partially completed form data stored in your browser's local storage are retained on your device for up to 7 days or until your assessment session is completed, whichever comes first. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.

Payment Records

Payment transaction records for one-time assessments and subscription payments are retained by Stripe for 7 years in compliance with financial record-keeping requirements. Buy & Charter does not store full payment card details on our servers.

Deletion Requests

You may request deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us at privacy@buyandcharter.com. We will process your request within 30 days, subject to any legal retention obligations that require us to hold certain data for longer.
